August 16, 2007 --- The 2007-2008 Clayton State Cheerleaders recently returned from their first ever appearance at the Universal Cheerleaders Association college camp held in Spartanburg, S.C.

The newly formed co-ed team comprised of four men and eight women, trained for three days with over 150 college cheer and dance athletes from colleges and universities in the southeast including Furman University, Brevard College, Eastern Carolina, and The University of Alabama-Birmingham.

The team received superior ribbons in the nightly evaluations, and also brought home 3rd place in the sideline competition, and 2nd place in the cheer competition. The team was also awarded the coveted UCA "Leadership Award", which is chosen by votes from the camp participants and the instructional staff.

The team, under the direction of new head coach Darryl Lyons, and coordinator Elaina Chance, is looking forward to an exciting season of leading the Laker fans to support Clayton State athletics.
