August 16, 2007 --- The
2007-2008 Clayton State Cheerleaders recently returned from their first ever
appearance at the Universal Cheerleaders Association college camp held in
Spartanburg, S.C.
The newly formed co-ed team comprised of four men and
eight women, trained for three days with over 150 college cheer and dance
athletes from colleges and universities in the southeast including Furman
University, Brevard College, Eastern Carolina, and The University of
Alabama-Birmingham.
The team received superior ribbons in the nightly
evaluations, and also brought home 3rd place in the sideline competition, and
2nd place in the cheer competition. The team was also awarded the coveted UCA
"Leadership Award", which is chosen by votes from the camp participants and the
instructional staff.
The team, under the direction of new head coach Darryl
Lyons, and coordinator Elaina Chance, is looking forward to an exciting season
of leading the Laker fans to support Clayton State athletics.
