John
Zubal begins his 11th year as the head athletic trainer of the
Clayton State Athletic Department, overseeing all 12
varsity intercollegiate sports. He is
responsible for the treatment of all injuries and serves
as the facilitator for Clayton State’s drug education
program.
Zubal is also the immediate athletic training contact
for women's soccer and women's basketball.
Renowned
to the Clayton State community for his superior work
ethic and caring treatment, Zubal was honored in 2002
with the prestigious Alice Smith Faculty/Staff honor,
awarded to the top Clayton State employee each year.
Zubal
was recognized in 2005 at the 56th annual National
Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) meeting,
receiving one of a selected number of Athletic Trainer
Service Awards. He was one of 32 Athletic Trainers to
receive the award, out of almost 35,000 certified
athletic trainers across the country.
In addition, Zubal and his staff were honored in 2007 by
the Peach Belt Conference as the PBC "Athletic Training
Staff of the Year." The
athletic training program at Clayton State University
provides a link between the school’s athletic program
and the medical community.
CSU
Athletic trainers provide care and coverage for all
student-athletes in the program. Focus is placed on the
prevention, evaluation and recognition of athletic
injuries, providing first aid and emergency care when
needed, and coordinating the rehabilitation programs for
all athletic injuries.
Zubal
received a bachelor’s degree from the University of
Pittsburgh and a master’s degree from the University
of Utah.
