Clayton State men’s golf tied for 16th after second round of
Golfweek Spring Invitational

 ORLANDO,
Fla. – February 8, 2009 – The Clayton State
Laker men’s golf team showed a little improvement in the second
round of the Golfweek Spring Invitational on Monday. The Lakers
fired a 310, four strokes better than the first round, and are
now tied for 16th in the 18-team field at Reunion Resort
Independence Course.
Clayton State is tied with Central Oklahoma with a 624 for the
first two rounds. Both teams trail Cal State Monterey Bay by one
stroke, Washburn by two strokes and Carson-Newman by five
strokes. Nova Southeastern took over the lead after the second
round with a 589, two strokes ahead of West Florida and three
strokes in front of Lynn.
Individually for Clayton State, junior Adam Novakowski fired a
4-over par 76 for the second straight round and is now tied for
34th with an 8-over 152. Senior Neil Thomas is tied for 48th
with at 11-over 155 (78-77), followed closely by senior Wade
Binfield tied for 56th at 12-over 156 (81-75). Rounding out the
Clayton State scoring includes sophomore Andy Bate in 83rd with
a 164 (79-85) and freshman Michael Lee is tied for 85th with a
166 (84-82).
Lynn’s Steven Brame continues to lead after the second round
with a 4-under 140.
The third and final round of the Golfweek Spring Invitational is
on Tuesday at the Independence Course.
