Three straight!
McKeever scores game-winner as
Clayton State men edge Erskine 1-0
Lakers run unbeaten streak to
seven straight in improving to 6-3-1 overall
 MORROW,
Ga. – September 30, 2008 – The winning continued for the
Clayton State Laker men’s soccer team on Tuesday as the Lakers
squeaked out a hard-fought 1-0 shutout over visiting Erskine at
Laker Field.
With the victory, Clayton State ran its unbeaten streak to seven
straight games as the Lakers improved to 6-3-1 with the important
in-region victory against the much-improved Flying Fleet. After a
0-3 start to the season, Clayton State is now 6-0-1 in its last
seven games.
The game was well-played as both teams equally controlled the ball.
It appeared as if the Lakers would be headed into another overtime
contest when junior Jonathan McKeever came through in the clutch. In
the 86th
minute, McKeever took a left cross from junior midfielder Kyle Timm
and hammered home the game’s only goal on a 25-yard strike from the
top of the penalty box.
Clayton State out-shot the Flying Fleet (5-3) 16-7 for the game.
Laker goalkeeper David Cristofoli recorded his second straight
shutout with two saves. His goals-against average is now an
impressive 0.74. Erskine goalkeeper Ronnie Murray was stellar with
eight saves.
