Clayton State’s Lukic earns PBC Defensive Player of the Week for men’s soccer
Junior defender paced Lakers to ninth shutout of the season last week

MORROW, Ga. – October 28, 2009 – The Peach Belt Conference released its weekly honors on Wednesday for men’s soccer, and the Clayton State Lakers were included in this weeks selections. Clayton State’s Igor Lukic was honored as the PBC Defensive Player of the Week.

Lukic, a junior from Sabac, Serbia, is the third different Clayton State player to earn PBC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season. Sophomore Roger Boniface was selected on Sept. 5, and senior Liam Brown was honored on Oct. 13.

Since being inserted into the starting line-up on Sept. 30, Lukic has helped pace Clayton State on a current seven-game unbeaten streak. During that span, the Lakers have allowed only one goal in the process, and Clayton State leads the PBC in shutouts with nine.

With three starters on defense out last Wednesday at Georgia Southwestern, Lukic took the lead. He spearheaded Clayton State’s defensive effort in limiting the Hurricanes to only two shots for the entire game in a 3-0 Laker shutout victory.

Clayton State (10-4-1, 5-1-1 PBC) closes out the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m. with a tremendous showdown at rival Lander. A possible PBC regular season championship will be on the line.
