One of the top players to wear a Laker uniform during the Dennis Cox era, former Laker standout Shantel Ragin is in her second season on the Clayton State coaching staff as an assistant coach. She earned her Bachelor's degree this past spring in Integrative Studies.

A standout during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons, Ragin was very instrumental in the success of the Clayton State women’s basketball program. She was a two-time All-Peach Belt Conference small forward, pacing Clayton State to a combined 49-17 record with two Peach Belt regular season championships, a tournament championship and two straight berths in the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

In her two seasons, Ragin averaged 12 points and seven rebounds, while shooting 46 percent from the field in 66 games. She averaged 10 points and six rebounds during her junior season in pacing Clayton State to a school record 29-6 mark, winning the Peach Belt regular season and tournament championships and advancing to the "Final Four" of the NCAA Division II National Tournament. During her senior season (2007-08), she averaged 14 points and seven rebounds a game, while shooting 49 percent from the field in pacing Clayton State to a 20-11 mark, including the PBC regular season championship and the "Sweet 16" berth in the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

For her Clayton State career, Ragin finished fourth all-time in steals, fifth all-time in assists, sixth all-time in rebounding and 10th all-time in scoring.

A native of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Ragin came to Clayton State prior to the 2006-07 season after a brilliant junior college career at Florida Community College-Jacksonville. There, she was an All-FCCAA Mid-Florida Conference and NJCAA All-Region selection, averaging 14 points and seven rebounds a game as a sophomore. Ragin was also a prep standout at Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines.
