Clayton State women conclude regular season
with 4-0 defeat at Lander
Lakers finish 4-10-1 and 3-6-1 in Peach Belt Conference

GREENWOOD,
S.C. – October 31, 2009 – Aiming
to lock down a Peach Belt Conference Tournament berth, the Clayton
State Laker women’s soccer team dropped its regular season finale on
Saturday with a 4-0 defeat at Lander.
The defeat drops the Lakers to 4-10-1 overall and 3-6-1 in the Peach
Belt Conference. The defeat, coupled with UNC Pembroke’s victory at
North Georgia and Montevallo’s tie at Georgia College, eliminates
Clayton State from the upcoming Peach Belt Conference Tournament.
Lander (10-3-2, 6-3-1 PBC) scored two goals in each half, despite
being out-shot by Clayton State for the game 14-10. The Bearcats
scored their first two in less than a minute apart in the first
half.
Jessica Skowron scored on a lob shot that inside the penalty box
that landed just out of the reach of Clayton State goalkeeper
Dominique Trappio in the 20th
minute. A minute later, the Bearcats struck again as Christina
Barbour scored in front of the goal off an incoming pass by Jamie
Shaw.
Lander made it 3-0 in the 47th
minute of the second half as Lauren McDonald scored off an assist by
Taylor Jackson. Shaw, who finished with two assists, concluded the
Bearcat scoring with an unassisted goal in the 76th
minute.
Clayton State goalkeepers Trappio and Leanne Hilton-Clarke combined
for six saves, while Lander goalkeeper Chelsea Beetch had six saves
in the shutout.
