11th-ranked Clayton State’s season concludes with 5-0 defeat against second-ranked Armstrong Atlantic
Lakers fall in NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional; finish season 20-6 overall

SAVANNAH, Ga. – May 9, 2008 – The Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team saw its 2008 season come to a conclusion on Friday as the Lakers dropped a 5-0 decision against second-ranked Armstrong Atlantic in the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional championships at Armstrong Atlantic.

Despite the defeat, 11
th-ranked Clayton State finishes the season 20-6 overall, setting the school record for victories in a season and winning 20 matches in a season for the first time in program history.

The Lady Pirates won all three doubles matches to start the match, despite enduring a rain delay of more than an hour. When the delay ended, Clayton State’s Julia Chergova and Anna Redecsi dropped an 8-0 decision to Iuliia Stupak and Gabriella Kovacs from Armstrong Atlantic at No. 1, while the Lakers’ Katie White and Selma Hidass dropped an 8-2 decision to the Lady Pirates’ Martina Beckmann and Alida Mueller-Wehlau at No. 2.

Clayton State’s Viktoriya Semyrodenko and Allison Evans then fell 8-4 against Sofia Haggstrom and Alisa Kagukina at No. 3.

Armstrong Atlantic clinched the match in singles play as Mueller-Wehlau knocked off Semyrodenko 6-0, 7-5 at No. 3, and Haggstrom defeated Clayton State’s Kristina Jonutyte 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6.
