AIKEN, S.C. - March 19, 2010 – Playing its first match in over a week, the Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team returned to Peach Belt Conference action in fine fashion on Friday, recording a 9-0 shutout victory at USC Aiken. 11th-ranked Clayton State, which snapped a two-match losing streak in the process, is now 8-4 overall and 5-2 in the Peach Belt. USC Aiken falls to 5-6 overall and 1-4 in the Peach Belt. Viktoriya Semyrodenko and Jessica Budd each won three-set thrillers in singles for the Lakers. See full story


No. 11 Clayton State drops tough 6-3 decision at No. 12 Hawaii Pacific
Lakers win three singles matches; drop to 7-4 overall
HONOLULU, HI. – March 10, 2010 – The three-day Hawaiian excursion ended tough for the Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team on Wednesday as the No. 11 Lakers dropped a 6-3 decision at No. 12 Hawaii Pacific. The defeat was the second straight for Clayton State, now 7-4 overall. The Lakers’ three victories came in singles. Viktoriya Semyrodenko won a 6-1, 6-2 victory over 34th-ranked Nina Mihova from Hawaii Pacific at No. 2, while Ivana Kommelova knocked off Hawaii Pacific’s Ingrid Cseh 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 and Marie Cercelletti defeated Tinka Mihova from Hawaii Pacific 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4.

No. 11 Clayton State gives third-ranked BYU-Hawaii strong battle in 7-2 defeat
Lakers win one singles match, one doubles match in Top 15 showdown
LAIE, HI. – March 9, 2010 – In a showdown of two Top 15 teams in Division II in women’s tennis, the Clayton State Laker women’s team gave host BYU-Hawaii all it could handle on Tuesday, but the host Seasiders prevailed 7-2. 11th-ranked Clayton State had won six of seven matches coming into the contest, and third-ranked BYU-Hawaii is now 9-0 overall. Clayton State won one match each in singles and doubles. In singles, Ivanna Kommelova won a 7-5, 6-3 decision over the Seasiders’ Ayako Ikeda at No. 3, while the Laker No. 2 doubles team of Kommelova and Marie Cercelletti won a 9-8 (8-5 tiebreak) thriller over Ikeda and Shawni Porter from BYU Hawaii. HONOLULU, HI. – March 8, 2010 – The week-long getaway in Hawaii got off to a good start for the Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team on Monday as the 11th-ranked Lakers rolled to an impressive 8-1 victory over Hawaii-Hilo. Clayton State has now won six of its last seven matches to improve to 7-2 overall. The Lakers swept all three doubles matches and won five of the six matches in singles.
