Clayton State releases 2008 men’s and women’s
cross country schedule
Cougar Invitational, Wingate Invitational highlight Laker slate this season
MORROW, Ga. - July 8, 2008 – Five regular season meets will highlight the 2008 Clayton State Laker men’s and women’s cross country schedule. Veteran head coach Mike Mead officially released the schedule on Tuesday. The Lakers’ regular season opens on August 30th with the Cougar Invitational in Smiths Station, Ala., followed by the Peach Belt Pre-Conference meet on Sept. 6 in Milledgeville. The big meet of the regular season is the next weekend (Sept. 13) at the Wingate Invitational in that it is the same course where the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional meet will be on Nov. 8. Laker men finish disappointing 16th at NCAA Division II South Regional men’s cross country championships
Chino is the highest Clayton State finisher, placing 44th overall
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - November 3, 2007 – What was to be a promising NCAA Division II South Regional men’s cross country meet turned out to be disappointing for the Clayton State Lakers on Saturday. One of a few prime contenders coming into the meet, Clayton State struggled to finish 16th in the 19-team field with 408 points in the 10K event. It was the lowest finish ever for a Laker men’s squad at a regional. The highest finisher for the Lakers was from Joey Chino, who placed 44th overall with a time of 34:32.5. See full story

South Region championships in Huntsville
Laker freshman Berkhedle amongst prime contenders in the men’s race
MORROW, Ga. - November 1, 2007 – After sitting out last season’s NCAA Division II South Regional Championships, the Clayton State Laker men’s cross country team returns to this year’s meet in Huntsville, Ala. The Lakers, unranked in the region hope to make a statement on Saturday following their second place finish in the Peach Belt Conference nearly two weeks ago. Leading the way for Clayton State is freshman sensation Walid Berkhedle, who won the individual Peach Belt Conference title on Oct. 20 to become the second Laker in three seasons to be selected PBC "Runner of the Year." Berkhedle wins Peach Belt men’s championship as Clayton State men place close second
Laker women place ninth at Peach Belt Conference championships
EVANS, Ga. - October 20, 2007 – Walid Berkhedle continued his dominating running and the Clayton State Laker men’s cross country made nearly a 180-degree from last season as the Lakers finished a close second on Saturday at the Peach Belt Conference championships at Blanchard Woods Park. The Lakers finished with 47 points for the event, finishing only six points behind champion Columbus State. In the women’s race, Clayton State struggled to a ninth-place finish with 222 points. The day, however, belonged to Berkhedle as he became the second Clayton State runner in the last three seasons to win an individual Peach Belt Conference men’s individual championship. The freshman from Ontario won the 8K race in a time of 26:43.36 minutes. See full story
